Christ preaching without the Cross is no Christ preaching

In England many, many, many years ago there was a famous preacher whose name was Charles Spurgeon. He said many impactful things that I’ve learned from since I was a teenager. One of them that impressed me profoundly, and that I’ve repeated over and over goes like this: To preach Christ without His cross is to betray Him with a kiss. What a profound statement that is! If you and I are going to reach our world there are many things you can talk about with your neighbors, school friends, office people, factory…wherever you may be. But there is one thing you cannot miss and that is Jesus Christ crucified. Judas Iscariot denied Jesus Christ though he walked with Him for three years, and never honored Him, and sold Him for thirty pieces of silver. You and I cannot do the same as Judas Iscariot, but we would if we don’t preach the cross.

When you want someone to meet God, you must explain how Christ died on the cross for our sins; how God the Father laid the sins of us all on Him, and how He, by dying in our place, bought us forgiveness and eternal life. To preach Christ without His cross is to betray Him with a kiss.

This is Luis Palau.

Rev. Val Peter, longtime leader at Boys Town, dies at 85

Peter died early Tuesday. He was 85.

“He wanted to help the unwanted and unloved children. That’s very similar to the mission of Father Flanagan,” said Thomas Lynch, director of community programs at Boys Town.

Peter, born and raised in Omaha, served as executive director at Boys Town from 1985 until retiring in 2005.

BREAKPOINT Justice Roberts Cites Precedent to Uphold Evil of Abortion

Yesterday, in a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court struck down a Louisiana law that would have required abortion doctors to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital. Not only did Chief Justice John Roberts side with the more liberal justices again, he also gave pro-lifers reasons to doubt Roewould ever be overturned during his tenure.

According to media outlets and the court majority, this case, June Medical Services v. Russo, was essentially “identical” to a Texas law the Court struck down in 2016. In that case, Whole Women’s Health v. Hellerstedt, the Court ruled that requiring providers to have admitting privileges places an undue burden on women who wanted to access abortion services.

As I argued on BreakPoint back in March, the Louisiana law was similar but not identical. For example, only about 30 percent of women seeking an abortion in Louisiana would have been affected by this law, and requirements for doctors to obtain admitting privileges are less strict in Louisiana than Texas. Because of these differences, a circuit court concluded that abortion providers could more easily comply with this law than the Texas law, and it therefore did not impose an “undue burden” on a woman’s right to an abortion.

The majority, including Chief Justice Roberts, felt otherwise. “The legal doctrine of stare decisis requires us, absent special circumstances, to treat like cases alike,” wrote Roberts. “The Louisiana law imposes a burden on access to abortion just as severe as that imposed by the Texas law, for the same reasons. Therefore, Louisiana’s law cannot stand under our precedents.”

Roberts appeal to stare decisis, “the legal term for fidelity to precedent,” is troubling. In its history, the Court has abandoned precedent and overturned more than 300 of its previous rulings. In the 2018 Janus decision, for instance, Roberts had no problem with the court overturning the 1977 Abood decision, which required non-union members to pay union dues.

In 2016, Roberts dissented from the Whole Women’s Health decision. And yet, on Monday, he proclaimed the decision he believed to be wrong then as untouchable precedent today. Even worse, Roberts gave particular deference to the “undue burden test” from the 1992 decision in Planned Parenthood v. Casey, which is whether or not a particular law or regulation presents any kind of “substantial obstacle to a woman seeking an abortion.” These days, “substantial obstacle” essentially means that nothing can get in the way of, slow down, or discourage an abortion in any way.

Justice Clarence Thomas sharply disagreed, not only with the majority opinion, but specifically with Roberts: “The Constitution does not constrain the States’ ability to regulate or even prohibit abortion. This Court created the right to abortion based on an amorphous, unwritten right to privacy, which it grounded in . . . ‘legal fiction’ . . . the putative right to abortion is a creation that should be undone.”

Despite his objection and the widespread panic of media outlets since Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh joined the court, it’s now difficult to see a Roberts-led Court ever overturning Roe

Like Dred ScottBuck v. Bell, and the Korematsu decisions, Roe gives Constitutional sanction to great evil, and neither slavery, forced sterilization, nor the internment of U.S. citizens were ever overturned by the Court. Dred Scott was overturned by the Civil War and the 13th Amendment. Buck v. Bell and Korematsu are still “the law of the land.” So is Roe.

Ultimately, June Medical Services v. Russo is not about abortion access in Louisiana. It’s about the nearly unique and untouchable status of legal abortion in our country.

Every Constitutional right, even legitimate ones such as the freedom of speech or religion, is subject to limitations. Any restriction on abortion, however, is considered a mortal threat to “women’s rights,” cast as part of a “war on women,” and considered a violation of so-called “settled law.” On Monday, the Chief Justice added the sheen of “fidelity to precedent.”

And so, once again, Christians are left to ending this national evil by directly acting. Any hope that the Court would help us defend the vulnerable unborn was misplaced, but our commitment to defend the vulnerable unborn was not. Our only option is to stay at our posts, to love mothers and fathers and newborns, and to offer the reasons, the compassion, and the support that will, with God’s help, make abortion unthinkable.

THE ANSWER TO CHAOS

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY JUNE 30, 2020

IT SEEMS LIKE EVERYTHING IS FALLING APART, DOESN’T IT? THE VIRUS CONTINUES TO SPIKE IN SOME STATES. THERE HAS BEEN A MONTH OF CHAOS IN OUR STREETS. THE RUSSIANS ALLEGEDLY PAID TALIBAN FIGHTERS TO KILL AMERICANS IN AFGHANISTAN, BUT THE WHITE HOUSE SAYS IT KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT IT. TRUTH AS AN OBJECTIVE SEEMS TO HAVE LEFT THE BUILDING. WE ALL HAVE OUR OWN “TRUTHS” NOW.

WHERE IS ALL OF THIS HEADED? THERE IS CHAOS THROUGHOUT THE OLD TESTMENT, EXCEPT WHEN THE ISRAELITES GOT RID OF FALSE GODS AND TURNED TO THE ONLY GOD THERE IS. THERE IS A LESSON FOR US. ONE DOESN’T HAVE TO CREATE A GOD OF SILVER OR GOLD. OUR GREAT ENEMY WILL DO ANYTHING TO DRAW OUR ATTENTION AWAY FROM THE ONE TRUE GOD AND HIS SON WHO IS THE ONLY ANSWER TO CHAOS. I’M CAL THOMAS.

Judicial Contradictions

Kerby Andersonnever miss viewpoints

Perhaps you have heard the phrase that people follow their basic principles, until they don’t. As much as most of us try to follow key principles in our life (whether they be principles of leadership, family, or morality), sometimes an issue arises that changes our behavior. That is certainly true of judicial interpretation.

While on the Supreme Court, Justice Neil Gorsuch has staked out his belief that legislatures (not the judiciary) should make law. And he has on more than one occasion been willing to tell Congress or a state legislature to write a less ambiguous law and not depend on the Supreme Court to fix it.

That is why his opinion in the Bostock case is most confusing. The editors of the Wall Street Journal started their editorial with these words: “An alien appears to have occupied the body of Justice Neil Gorsuch as he wrote Monday’s opinion.”

Judge Roberts is no friend of the right or baby’s it would appear

The Supreme Court on Monday ruled that a Louisiana law requiring that individuals who perform abortions at clinics have admitting privileges in a nearby hospital is unconstitutional, as it places an undue burden on women seeking abortions.

The court ruled 5-4 in the case, June Medical Services LLC v. Russo, with Chief Justice John Roberts once again casting a deciding vote by siding with the court’s liberal justices.

Billy’s thoughts Judge Roberts  must now be labeled on the left. Even though he was named by a GOP President. That is something he will take to the grave along with today’s ruling. This is more reason to support those private faith based groups that save baby’s and help women with no charge unlike the pro abortion groups.

Evangelicals should be careful and not amen everything President Trump says

Cal Thomas made me think as he often does in radio commentary he did a few days ago for World Radio. It was after President Trump has entered campaign for President with his rally in OK.
I believe too many of us on the right and who are Followers of Christ believe since this President was picked by God he can do no wrong. Yes God will use sinful men but does that mean the Godly should amen everything they do.

One Evangelical leader who I very much respect said  when Trump was elected President God answered our prayers. To quote Cal again God must had been on holiday when Clinton, and Obama were put in office.
How sad that we don’t know our Bible which tells us in Romans 13 all leadership is from God.
President Trump at his rally the other night called somebody
son of a [blank. Would you want your child watching that. If he did that you might grab a bar of soap for his mouth.
Trump talk was full of negatives. He needs to follow the example of
Ronald Reagan who always called the Ones on the other sides his friends.

Burke may have had a sinful past but black deserve more than the school name being changed

Throughout the country, people are re-evaluating monuments, statues and buildings named after people with questionable pasts.

This has hit Omaha, with some wanting to remove Harry Burke’s name off of Burke High School, near 120th and Dodge.

3 News Now spoke with historian David Bristow about how Burke dealt with Black teachers during his 16 year tenure.

Burke was hired as superintendent by Omaha Public Schools in 1946 and during his tenure he took the district out of debt and helped build up the district, as it ballooned from the baby boom.

But his hiring practices are now getting a second look.

“It was clear he was only hiring Black teachers for the majority Black elementary schools in north Omaha. Omaha Public Schools did not have a single Black high school teacher,” says Bristow, editor of History Nebraska.

Over the past few weeks Bristow has been reading newspaper clippings, diving into Burke’s career in Omaha.

BILLY’s thoughts Yes Burke may have had a bad past but how is changing the name of the high school I graduated from going to improve the lives of black students, or the lives of black families in America. It will just  upset those who went to Burke on one side of the fence. But it won’t improve lives for black kids. There will still be gangs, etc. What those on the left should focus on but they won’t is school choice. Black children should have the same chance as white children with money.
