New tracking system for students riding bus to and from school

It was an iconic scene: Backpack-laden youngsters filing off a yellow school bus, ready to start another day.

But before they walked down the bus steps, these Gretna Elementary students paused for a step familiar to many office workers.

They reached for the white plastic cards strung on the lanyards around their necks and swiped them in front of a card reader.( Gretna rolls out a new tracking system for buses, students )

Letter to Miley Cyrus

Dear Miley Cyrus,
Look, I’m not going to lie. Girl, you are a bit of a train wreck right now.
I’m 38 years old and I will admit that I rocked out to “Party in the USA” a few years ago. You were starting to wear your shorts a little shorter then, and your shirts a bit tighter, but I still felt that you hadn’t yet been sucked into the young Hollywood path of recklessness.
Well, sweetie, consider yourself officially initiated now.
While watching you at the MTV Video Music Awards, I cringed at the thought that there were probably naïve tweens watching you at that exact moment. They were watching because they grew up seeing you as Hannah Montana and they, too, partied with you in the USA. But now, during this recent performance, I’m guessing their mothers had to cover their eyes and attempt to explain why their beloved Disney star was having sexual relations with a foam finger.
( Billy’s thoughts – Miley might need a good spanking and I know for sure she needs our prayers. It has been sad to watch what has happened in her and to her. She was once a good role model but that state is gone for now. She once said something like she wanted to be a missionary but anything to do with faith in God seems to be gone from her life. The good news it is not too late for her to change. Lets all hope something happens in her soul and life before it is too late. Read more of the letter to Miley at the following link. Miley Cyrus, honey, you’re a bit of a train wreck )

School Choice is “the Civil Rights Issue of Our Day”

Thankfully, institutionalized racism and legal discrimination have been relegated to the ash heap of history. But there are still too many inequalities in American society today, according to Kentucky’s junior Senator Rand Paul. Thus, he writes, it’s high time we live out Martin Luther King Jr’s vision of “racial equality.” How? By championing school choice — and finally giving children from failing public schools a chance to be successful.

This, he insists, is the “civil rights issue of our day”:

King’s dream of racial equality has come a long way, but inequalities still exist that can’t be ignored. Too many Americans are trapped in a public education system that does not do our children justice. We have a system in which politicians and bureaucrats have too much control, parents have too little, and students’ needs are not being met. Our children have so much potential, but their natural skills and talents are often ignored. Their true potential is not being realized.

Conservative blacks – conspicuous by their absence at MLK event

A black conservative activist says he was neither shocked nor surprised that the only black member of the U.S. Senate – who happens to be conservative and Republican – wasn’t invited to speak at the recent 50th anniversary celebration of the March on Washington.

What accounts for the absence of conservative black leaders at the recent MLK anniversary celebration?
Poor planning by the organizers
A belief by some that MLK was a liberal
The reality that ideology – not race – divides the country

When Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech on the Washington Mall 50 years ago, he probably had someone like South Carolina Senator Tim Scott in mind. Scott, currently the only black member of the United States Senate, would seem to be a natural fit as a symbol of how far blacks have come in half a century. But the Republican lawmaker, who was first elected to Congress on the strength of the tea party movement, wasn’t invited to speak at the observance.

WE CAN DO LITTLE, IF ANYTHING, TO IMPROVE CONDITIONS IN THE MIDDLE EAST?

WHEN WILL WE EVER GET IT THROUGH OUR HEADS THAT WE CAN DO LITTLE, IF ANYTHING, TO IMPROVE CONDITIONS IN THE MIDDLE EAST?

PRESIDENT OBAMA APPEARS READY TO BOMB THE SYRIAN REGIME OF BASHIR AL-ASSAD BECAUSE THE PRESIDENT SAYS ASSAD USED CHEMICAL WEAPONS AGAINST HIS PEOPLE, KILLING CHILDREN. SECRETARY OF STATE JOHN KERRY CALLS IT A “MORAL OBSCENITY.” KERRY, OF COURSE, IS PRO ABORTION AND CARES NOTHING ABOUT THE NEARLY 60 MILLION BABIES WHO HAVE DIED IN AMERICA. THAT’S A MORAL OBSCENITY. BUT I DIGRESS. THE PRESIDENT WON’T GET COOPERATION FROM THE FECKLESS UNITED NATIONS. RUSSIA AND CHINA ARE OPPOSED TO A MILITARY STRIKE IN SYRIA.
( Billy’s thoughts – My heart goes out to the Syrian people as my heart goes out to any groups of people living under evil leaders. However look at what has happened to the people of Egypt. They took out an evil leader now radical followers of Islam are running the nation including hurting the Christians of the nation. Lets not make this mess worst we should stay out. Does anyone understand what Obama is doing. Also Chuck Hagel who now works for Obama opposed the Iraq war but now he supports an attack by America. If you understand that please explain it to me. The above is part of a radio commentary Cal Thomas. If you like read the whole commentary right here or listen to the audio. )

MLK didn’t believe in separation of church and state

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. knew that the preachers of America must serve as the conscience of America, and that America’s public policy will only be sound if it is in alignment with the eternal laws of nature and nature’s God.

I had occasion earlier this week to revisit the speech, the sermon, that Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered four days after Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give her bus seat to a white man.

King launched the Montgomery bus boycott on that day, December 5, 1955.

Horror of horrors, his politically-charged talk was delivered not in an arena, not in a hotel conference room, not in a public plaza, but in a church. And a Baptist church at that – Montgomery’s Holt Baptist Church.
